In the Deep Woods: Paintings from a Maine Island

New Exhibit:

In the Deep Woods: Paintings from a Maine Island

This summer Susan Beebe is having an exciting new exhibit of her recent paintings from life on a Maine island.  You can see Susan’s explorations of the island’s natural world.  There will be an opening celebration on Friday, June 9th, from 4-6p.m.

Susan Beebe has been painting in one spot in the deep spruce woods of Friendship Long Island, Maine, for the past three years. Her sixteen paintings are about all the life in a forest: moss and lichens growing on an old stone wall; the decay and life among the roots of the forest floor; seedlings to saplings to tall, mature trees, to snags, to fallen logs: and hints of animal and bird life.

The exhibit is hosted at Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center.
